My Ocean Challenge Newsletter 11 - Ocean Science

Every six weeks, Team Malizia’s education programme, My Ocean Challenge, releases a children’s educational newsletter filled with updates from the team, the boat, and fascinating science topics. As winter sets in and the days grow colder, cosy up and join us in celebrating the wonders of the ocean - both above and below - while Boris continues his epic voyage.

by Remy Johannsen

Exciting things have been happening since our last newsletter! On the 10th of November 2024, Team Malizia bid farewell to skipper Boris Herrmann and his Malizia - Seaexplorer IMOCA race yacht as they embarked on an incredible journey around the world: the Vendée Globe.

While many of you may be closely following the race and the fleet’s progress above the water, there’s a whole other world beneath the surface that’s equally, if not more fascinating! Just last week, Boris deployed a scientific device to help researchers better understand the vital role the Ocean plays in climate change.

This edition of the newsletter dives deep into Ocean science and exploration. Learn about the slowing of Earth’s rotation, meet Will Harris, Team Malizia’s co-skipper and discover what it takes to become a sailor yourself.

If you are inspired to create any poems, drawings or other creative projects inspired by our My Ocean Challenge, please forward them to our myoceanchallenge@borisherrmannracing.com email address! We would love to see them!
